VMmark 3.1.0 - vCenter Server permission
Hello.
We're trying to run some tests with VMmark, but we have problems with vCenter user permissions. vCenter is controlled by 3rd party provider and we have limited access to vCenter (ex. we don't have access to vCenter Users and Groups), but they are willing to add more permissions if we know what to ask.

Unity mode crashes
I'm running a Win7 Pro 64-bit host, with a Win7 Pro 32-bit guest. I have a 3-monitor setup, with the desktop extended to all 3 screens. The guest has 8Gb allocated to it; the host has the remaining 24Gb. To use all three screens and still be able to run applications on both guest and host machines, I use Unity Mode. I'll be in this mode, and everything's working smoothly, when the guest machine suddenly (and without any input from me) exits Unity Mode. Everything running on the guest machine goes back to standard mode on one monitor and I have to re-enter Unity Mode and resize all open windows running on the guest machine to regain the layout I want. This happens randomly - sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after an hour, sometimes once in a while, and sometimes repeatedly. Any help would be appreciated.

Blue Screen System_Service_Exception
I have recently upgraded my VMWare Workstation Pro from version 12 to 15.5. I tried to start a Windows 7 VM after the update and it fails to complete its boot. The operating system starts and it appears to be performing configuration updates but after a while fails with the infamous blue screen and the Stop code 0x0000003B. I've tried a number of work arounds and haven't made any progress. I tried to use the latest VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client to recreate a copy of the host machine again, which is also running Windows 7, and I receive the same error when I try to start that VM as well. Others seem to startup just fine. I tried upgrading the virtual machine and this made no difference as well. Does anyone know what I can do to either repair or fix this current system or recreate another working copy of my host?
I have tried to restore and repair Windows, undo some of the updates and tried to migrate back to the last known good copy with no success.

Building vmware Linux modules rebuilds the complete kernel tree - what is wrong?

why is this happening? Same happens if you just run vmware or vmware-modconfig (and there is no module yet), it still rebuilds the complete kernel.

Looking on how to retrieve Tools Version and Snapshot/Disk info info from Python SDK.
We are migrating our PERL into Python. The perl seems to have more access to informatoin about the VMwareGuests.....
We report to a metrics server so we can have more people see the environment without logging into VCenter.
Things I can't figure out how to see anymore:
Tools Version on a GuestVM
Free Disk on GuestVMs ... can only see the hard disks and capacity.
Would be nice.

vRO Cluster - Replica to Master not working
Hi guys,
I implemented a plugin using the IEndpointConfigurationService to save configuration.
I have a cluster with 2 vRO servers (a Master Node and a Replica Node) running in Asynchronous Mode.
If I create the configuration in the Master Node, it is immediately replicated to the Replica Node (I can see it in the Inventory).
If I create the configuration in the Replica Node, I cannot see it in the Inventory from Master. But if I reboot the Master Node, the configuration appears in the Inventory.
Should it work both ways or only works from Master to Replica?
If it should work both ways, what would I be missing in the implementation or servers setup? Could it be something related to the Sync Mode?

Mount Volumes Immediately no longer an option?
I played with he beta of App Volumes 4 a bit and I just upgraded my 2.18 environment to the GA release of App Volumes 4.
I've noticed that there is no longer an option to assign/unassign volumes immediately or on the fly (while a user is logged in). Is this by design?
I've been wanting to use the command line to mount volumes for users based on flags with DEM.
For example, I have a community college customer who would like to assign volumes to users, but also assign volumes to machine accounts (not supported to do both) while the user is in a certain room. Imagine the user always has a set of Apps assigned, but we also want to assign application X when the user logs into a VM from a certain computer lab. I've worked to assign app stacks using the command line that is used in the VM Test Drive desktops "Attach LotsOfApps" so that we can attach a certain app stack based on a condition that is met with DEM.
This wont be possible if we are not able to attach app stacks on the fly anymore.

Mirroring two PCIe NVMe Drives using ESXi 6.5 on DL380 G10
I have a new DL380 G10 with two PCIe NVMe drives. I have set up a Windows 2016 VM as a test, given it equal storage from each NVMe and set the two disks to be Dynamic and then set up Disk Mirroring in Windows on all partitions on disks 0 and 1. I see two boot options when I start the VM - 1. Windows Server 2016 and 2. Windows Server 2016 - secondary plex - so I think the Windows mirroring is successful.
My aspiration is that if one NVMe drive fails I'll be able to easily recover and run this VM and others to be set up from the remaining good drive.
I've found the VMWare document "Set Up Dynamic Disk Mirroring" for SAN LUNs, a slightly different variation than my case, and I see that it says to add a couple of advanced options pertaining to the SCSI controller, returnNoConnectDuringAPD, and returnBusyOnNoConnectStatus.
In my case do I need to do this for the NVMe controller I added to the settings for this VM?
I also browsed the DataStores NVMe1 and NVMe2 (the not so colorful names I have given the two NVMe drives). The ESXi metadata files - vswp, nvram, vmx, logs &c. - only live in the folder for the VM on NVMe1. The VM's folder on NVMe2 only has the vmdk file.
If NVMe1 were to fail can I recover with just the vmdk file on NVMe2? If not, which files other than vmdk file are critical and is there a way to keep them in sync between NVMe1 and NVMe2, or would the occasional static copy do?
The team who will eventually use this server don't really care and say they can easily rebuild VMs if a drive fails and they might actually prefer to have the second NVMe drive available for more VMs.
But it offends my IT sensibilities not to try and set up some sort of RAID on this and be able to recover more quickly should a drive fail.

folgendes Problem tritt im vSphere 6.5-Umfeld auf:
Eine VM soll manuell von einer ESX auf eine andere per vMotion migriert werden, der Datenspeicher bleibt gleich. Im Kontextmenü dieser VM ist jedoch der Eintrag "Migrieren" ausgegraut. Woran kann das liegen?
Quell- und Ziel-ESX sind absolut gleich aufgesetzt. Auf der Quell-ESX läuft nur diese eine VM, die Ziel-ESX ist leer. Die eine VM nutzt ca. 90 % des RAM auf der Quell-ESX. Kann das die Ursache des Problems sein?

Generate Alarm if Advanced Setting on a host does not have the desired value
Is there a possibility to raise an alarm if one of the Advanced Settings on a host does not have the desired value. Concrete example the advanced setting "VMFS3.UseATSForHBOnVMFS5" should be 0 on all hosts, because our storage vendor demands it from us.
I know how to check the value with PowerCLI (Get-AdvancedSetting -Name VMFS3.UseATSForHBOnVMFS5) but I want to use as few scripts as possible, because all scripts have to be maintained by someone and alerts in vCenter are always visible to every admin, mails a script sends can be ignored.

VMWARE VCenter en Vsphere evaluation mode license.
Hi,
I have just deployed a Vcenter server in LAB environment and some Nested ESXi hosts. This in emulation mode.
When I try to add a host to Vcenter I am getting a licensing issue warning:
Cannot connect 10.1.100.50in MAIN-DC : not enough CPU licenses
There are not enough licenses to add the host to the vCenter Server inventory. This event is accompanied by a fault that specifies the missing licenses required to add the host successfully. Action: Add the necessary licenses to vCenter Server and try adding the host again
I thought the evaluation mode gives me full capabilities for 60 days.
Or is this normal behaviour.

Capture folder size of Appvolumes on Vsan
I found a few scripts and this one seems to be close. The problem is the sizes are not adding up for instance the writable_templates folder has 3 80mb tempates so it shouldn't be 30gb. I think I am seeing what the inflated Thick provision size would be but I would like to see the size on disk for all of our appvolumes. Mainly concerned about the Apps folder to have a quick way to get how much of the VSAN this is using.

SRM Replication - VM with two addresses on the same Interface.
I have a scenario to replicate a single VM with vSphere 6 and SRM 6.1.
This VM has two addreses on the same interface. 192.168.10.11 and 192.168.10.12 for example.
When I try to create a recovery plan I couldn´t find how to customise these addresses to 192.168.20.11 and 192.168.20.12 for example.
The limit is one addres per interface ?
Does anyone knows how to cutomise two addresses on recovery plan ?

vSAN EPD Status Abnormal
Heya all,
I just enabled vSAN, and its currently failing hard.
EPD won't start on my ESXI-01 server (see picture below)
If I try to start the service manually via SSH, i get below error:
Any tips on how to fix this? There is extremely little to be found when using google

vSAN Disk Group Creation Issue
In my lab, I have a 2 node vSAN witness cluster (ESXi and VCSA 6.7 Update 2) using all HDDs.
Witness appliance was updated to match same ESXi version.
I am creating 3 disk groups (1 cache, 7 capacity) per node.
The system creates all disk groups but with errors. One disk group is healthy but the other two are not.
Going through the /var/log/vsansystem.log says that the system failed to create a Virsto file system on a drive, stating that 'operation was not permitted'.
Running esxcli storage core device smart get -d naa.############## shows no errors on the drive. The drive also shows the proper partitioning table as all the other drives.
What would cause the system not to have permissions to write a file system on a drive? And, how do I resolve this?
The current result is that the disk groups get created (with errors) and only 1/3 of my datastore size is available for use. This is not very useful if I want to implement it in a production environment.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

USB printing from horizon desktop
We have an issue when users go to print from their Horizon desktop to the locally connected USB printer - I see the print job goes into the queue and then disappears but nothing is actually printed. That is until I logout of the desktop and then everything that was sent to the printer starts printing.
We have ThinPrint and USB Redirection component enabled in the Horizon Agent on the Golden Image. We are running Horizon 7.8 and are using a Windows 7 desktop.
Why would this occur?
