Horizon View Defaulting to RDP

$

I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this problem.  We upgraded from View 7.8 to 7.9.  We're using Windows for our security and connection servers.  Everything works fine until we do a recompose on the pool.  After, no one can log into any desktops.  Took me a while to figure out, but it seems after the recompose, View defaults to the RDP protocol.  When you look at the pool settings, it shows Blast, but it's actually using RDP (which can't go through our firewall).  I have to set the protocol to RDP, save, then change to Blast and save again.  Then people can start logging in.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

vRA 7.5 - XaaS dropdown list not searchable

$

For certain requests we need an APP ID and SQUAD ID.  This list is generated from an API, which I am simply pulling back via an action.. Returning as array of string.

When these actions are added as "External Values" to a dropdown on a “Custom Form for IaaS blueprint” it is searchable. But adding it to a XaaS form it is NOT searchable…

When I say Searchable I mean, On the IaaS I can click on the dropdown and start typing a number and it will move to items starting with that making it easy to find the right ID, but on XaaS nothing happens, making it extremely difficult for for people to select the ID for their SQUAD or APP in the list of 100's of items.

Does anyone have ideas or experience with this?

Sorry I cant provide screen shots or really much more information.

Datastore "Not a known device", which makes it unable to be removed.

Hi,

     I tried removing a datastore which our SAN folks had removed the LUN from prematurely, and I'm getting the "Not a known device" message.  Is there any way to remove the reference of the datastore without that LUN being reattached (which, in this case, is not possible)?

     Thanks!

Cannot delete Datastore - "Not a known device"

We would like to delete a Datastore on our vSphere Server but it doesnt work ... We always get a "Not a known device" Error and were not sure why that is ... We had problems before with this specific Datastore, and thats why we wanted to delete it. Is it possible something is still linked to the Datastore and how do we find out if it is? What else could it be?

Guest Server 2016 Standard will Hang Randomly

We have a Windows Server Standard 2016 running SQL Server 2016 that is randomly hanging. When the guest server hangs our users get kicked out of the SQL Applications hosted on the server, server shares can no longer be connected to via the Windows Shares, the guest will still respond to pings on the network, and we do not have any response to input from the local console in vSphere. Other guests on the same host do not have these issues and the only way to get the server back into a running state is to Force a power cycle of the guest system.

The Host server is ESXi 6.5.0 Update 1 (Build 5969303), 2 Intel Xeon Silver 4110 CPU @ 2.10 GHz, 64 GB RAM and 4 running guest systems (3 Windows 10 and 1 Server 2016).

We are working with Microsoft Support and our Backup support as well for a resolution but wanted to ensure that we are not missing something from the VMWare side of things for this issue. We have a scheduled reboot for the host system tomorrow morning (1/23/2020) as the host has been running for over half a year.

vRA 7.6 - 401 unauthorized in IIS web server

$

Hi all,

We're seeing a large amount of 401s in our IIS logs that are causing them to fill up drive space fairly quickly. It seems that a process is hitting the web server unauthorized and then attempts the connection again with specified service account credentials. This causes two requests in a fairly short amount of time.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

GET /repository/Data/CoreModel.svc/GlobalPropertyItems() $filter=Name%20eq%20'Installation.Cafe.ComponentRegistryUrl'&$top=1 443 - client-ip Microsoft+ADO.NET+Data+Services - 401 0 0 1
GET /repository/Data/CoreModel.svc/GlobalPropertyItems() $filter=Name%20eq%20'Installation.Cafe.ComponentRegistryUrl'&$top=1 443 serviceaccount_name client-ip Microsoft+ADO.NET+Data+Services - 200 0 0 1

Has anyone seen this before? It doesn't seem like this should be expected behavior.

Thanks,

Anthony

VMWare guest memory usage vs guest memory

So I'm looking at the task manager of this server and noticed that Windows reports only using about 6GB of the 32GB of ram available, while looking at the VMWare web managment and notice that VMWare is showing nearly all of the 32gb assigned to the that Virtual Machine as in use or being used or reserved? Just wondering if there's a way to get the Host to release any memory that the OS is not using a little more actively.

Fusion 11.5 won't launch new VM on clean install

$

I had some issues with my existing VM, and per the suggestion on the official website, I uninstalled and reinstalled my version of Fusion, and attempted to create a new Windows VM. However, I seem to be unable to launch the VM--it effectively times out. I can't even shut down the "loading" VM--the "RESET" and "POWER OFF" options in the Virtual Machine menu are greyed out. It eventually throws a generic "Can't start this VM" error (or something like that). I've had zero successes; the VM has never launched since the problem that prompted the uninstall.

I'm totally flummoxed: I tried most everything I could find on this site, including making sure the 3D accelerator was off and the advanced processor and memory options are unchecked. Looking at the log, it might be missing some Config file, but I can't find anything about this (other than people complaining the entire log hasn't been posted).

This is now my second uninstall/reinstall with the same issues using both Brew and directly from the website's download, so I suspect whatever is going on there isn't the problem. I also re-downloaded the (totally new) Windows ISO I was using to create the machine, and that didn't help either. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Complete log below; warning, it's long (it's trying to launch the VM currently, so you might see something to that effect below):

Getting Access denied (Access Policy not found) when exposing vIDM through Reverse proxy (Azure App Gateway) - Without UAG

Experts,

I am new to VMWARE. I am exposing (to external) the VIDM server through reverse proxy (Azure app gateway) without UAG. My vidm is authenticated against the Keycoak server using SAML.  I have defined the policy to access vidm from all the devices to access from all the network ranges. It works fine when i access the internal URL of the VIDM. But  When i access my external URL (VIDM URL through Azure App gateway) through browser, i am getting the "Access Denied" "Access Policy not found." error. Can anyone share your ideas for this issue?

Is there any place to check the log files for this issue? or do i need to do more settings?

Regards,

Balamurugan

vRA8 Using the EBS & vRO to update resourceNames?

Hi.

In vRA7 I used to update the VM hostname by creating an output of virtualMachineAddOrUpdateProperties in vRO and updating the property value as follows:

function updateProps(props, key, value) {

    if (value != null&& value.length > 0) {

        System.debug("Update properties " + key + "=" + value);

        props.put(key,value);

    } else {

        System.error("Error updating properties " + key + " +=empty value");

    }

}

virtualMachineAddOrUpdateProperties = payload.virtualMachineAddOrUpdateProperties || newProperties();

updateprops(virtualMachineAddOrUpdateProperties, "Hostname", "newname");

updateprops(virtualMachineAddOrUpdateProperties, "VirtualMachine.Admin.Name", "newname");

I am trying to replicate this in vRA8 (cloud assembly) via vRO and hitting problems and was wondering if anyone had managed it yet??

resourceNames = inputProperties || newProperties();

delete resourceNames['resourceNames'][0]

resourceNames['resourceNames'].push("newMachineName")

This workflow triggers at the "Compute.allocation.pre" phase and completes successfully.

However, within cloud assembly I get the following error:

"Extensibility triggered task failure: Expected BEGIN_ARRAY but was STRING at line 1 column 279 path $.resourceNames"

Within the workflow I printed inputProperties at the start of the workflow and resourceNames at the end and I can see the resourceNames field has been updated as expected...

[vRA 7.6] xaas blueprint - generate a downloadable script for client to run

$

relative newbie to vRA -  but looking for advice on how to accomplish this goal....

I'd like to create a catalog item that would enable a end user to select a vm template from a drop down list

and from that selection a dynamically generated (powershell) script would be produce that the client could download from the deployment

screen. The scripts purpose is relatively unimportant but generally it would  call ovftool to download the template locally to the client system.

I'm thinking that my journey would start in the xaas blueprints with some combination of vsphere and powershell resource but was wondering if a broader audience could lend any advice.

Office Pro Plus Installs and Configures every launch

This issue is almost identical to the issue described here: Office Pro Plus installs/configures on every launch of Outlook however I'm not using writable volumes and I didn't just do and upgrade. For me I just created a new windows 10 desktop with Office pro plus 2016 installed on the parent and we are using AppVolumes 2.16

when I attach an AppStack to this desktop it causes office to perform the same install/configuration issue and this Appstack can be blank or even just have a desktop icon... anything will cause office to do this.

the reason the solution proposed in the disucssion linked is because I have nothing to update it to this is new appstack created from begining to end with 2.16

Also my provisioning workstation is new clone of the Parent desktop with only sysprep run.

Please help

Windows 10 Preparing

Hallo Team,

what are tips or solutions you can provide to reduce Windows 10 Preparing time?

My image is already optimized.

Here is what happens

Windows 10 -1909 boots up. User logs in.

Group policies are executed within milliseconds and then we wait for "Windows Preparing"

30-45 seconds user has to wait.

Question

1. can this time reduced

2. what is the time observed by the environment

When I try to execute below command, I "The requested operation requires elevation". When I run under elevated prompt, I get blank screen.

Server 2019 and vSphere 6.7U3 - Large file transfers cause intermittent disconnects

$

I'm running about a dozen Server 2019 servers all using VMXNET3 NICs on a vSAN 6.7 U3 cluster, using 4 x 10GB uplinks with MTU 9000. When I attempt to transfer large files (roughly 100MB or more) via RDP with folder redirection with copy/paste, Windows Admin Center file transfer, or setting up a filezilla server on the OS can used a client to upload files, the files will transfer for a second or two, then drops the connection completely. For RDP I observer a frozen screen then reattempts to connect and after a few seconds it usually reconnects with an incomplete file transfer. On Windows Admin Center, I get an error (it uses Powershell to transfer the file and gets errors related), and in FileZilla, observing the mgmt interface, the transfer stalls during the disconnect. during the FTP scenario, I'll use VMRC to connect to the guest OS and monitor the mgmt interface of FTP Server and see delays in the file transfer. I also run a ping from my workstation to the FTP server and will observe random packet loss, specifically 4-5 successful packets followed by 4-5 packets lost and this repeats.

In one sparticular instance, vCenter reported the VM NIC was disconnected from the vDS switch and couldn't reconnect it. I had to remove the vNIC and create a new one for it to connect to the vDS. The file transfer issue persists. I did observe this large file transfer issue on other Server 2019 guest OSes but i'm having a hard time trying to discover the root cause.

I did attempt to upgrade VMtools on my FTP server to 11.0.5 to see if it was a undiscovered issue, but the issue remains. I'm thinking there may be an issue with the Server OS itself, but i'd like to do my due diligence on the VMware side of things before moving on to the OS.

Anyone experience this issue, or can anyone recommend where to start first for adv troubleshooting...a specific log, etc?

Install VMware Workstation 14.1.7 Pro for Linux on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

I have tried installing VMware Workstation 14.1.7 Pro for Linux on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, but keep getting an error.

I ran the following commands:

$ sudo chmod +x ~/Downloads/VMware-Workstation-Full-14*.bundle

$ sudo apt-get -y install gcc make linux-headers-$(uname -r) dkms

I than ran VMware using the icon and received the following pop-up:

     Before you can run VMware, several modules must be complied and loaded into the running kernel.

I then clicked Install, but an error is returned referencing /tmp/vmware-root/vmware-14536.log.  The best I can tell, everything is okay in /tmp/vmware-root/vmware-14536.log up until the following logs:
