NSX firewall policies in VMware AWS

We have NSX running in our on premises & we are using NSX Micro segmentation policies.

Also we are planning to move to Vmware AWS.. In AWS VMware will use NSX-T

So would like to check is there any way we can export the NSX Micro segmentation policies from On prem to VMware NSX-T in AWS ?

What is the best practice to maintain the same NSX Micro segmentation policies in NSX-T in AWS ?

Windows PC will nach Virtualisierung partout nicht starten

Hallo Community,

ich verzweifel gerade etwas an einem Windows PC, den ich seit Wochen versuche in eine VM zu quetschen.

Der Rechner hat ein Intel RAID System mit gespiegeten Platten, falls das irgendwie als wertvolle Information hilft.

System: Dell XE2 / Windows 7 Pro x32

Folgendes bereits probiert:

reparaturfunktionen mittels bootrec genutzt, keine abhilfe.

                   WindowsRE genutzt. ebenfalls keine besserung

StarWind V2V Converter: gleiches Ergebnis

When I try to Validate my subscription to azure (New Coud Account), I receive the error :

Unable to validate the provided access credentials: Failed to validate credentials. Error: Unable to validate the provided access credentials Endpoint: null Task: /provisioning/endpoint-...

I believe it's a firewall problem, but can anyone tell me what is the destination (ip/url) ?

Thanks

Hi,

I have just started installing Lifecycle Manager 2.0 for the first time. I have enabled SSH and set a password for ''root'' (on the Settings page under ''Common Settings of vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager) but when trying to login via Putty I get an ''Access Denied''. I can use ''root'' and the password to login to the console. Any ideas?

VMware on AWS - L2 Extension

Hi

i have the below query regarding VMware on AWS.

VMC support L2 extension, which means I can extend my on premise network to AWS

Question:1

Were will be the default gateway for a network when I extend using L2 ? Will it be in on prem or will it be in both

If it is on prem then different vlan communication has to go through my on prem DC

If the DG is both on prem & in AWS, does it mean it uses some thing like Universal logical switch , Universal distributed router functionality using Anycast?

Esxi Host Migration to New vCenter

Am trying to migrate Esxi host from one vCenter to another vCenter

Backup vDS from Source vCenter with Port Group Identifiers

Import the backed up vDS on New vCenter

Disconnect the host from Old vCenter and then connect them in new vCenter and add to imported vDS

Am trying to do all the above using powercli, I was able to export and import vDS with no issues.

I was able to disconnect the host from old vCenter and add it to new vCenter

When I saw virtual switch on the esxi host it seems like it has reference of vDS from old vCenter. When I try to add to vDS on the new vCenter it works if I do it manually. But if I do it with powercli it throws back host is already added to switch. Any idea how do I do this ?

Command -->

$dest_vds =  Get-VDSwitch -Location $datacenter -Server $newvc -ErrorAction Stop

$dest_vds | Add-VDSwitchVMHost -VMHost (Get-VMHost -Name $esxi -Server $newvcenter) -ErrorAction Stop

$dest_vds  -> vDS on new vCenter

Error --> Add-VDSwitchVMHost : 01/21/2020 22:17:47 Add-VDSwitchVMHost VMHost 'labesxihost.labtzu.com' is already added to VDSwitch 'Lab-Fx-SWT'

Export/Import App Stacks on vSAN (possible?)

Hello,

I'd like to know if it's possible to export app stacks from one site to a completely different site while using vSAN as storage? I believe there was a way to do it on traditional storage.

Thank you.

How to fix the issue.

For solution, I do changes before Power On VM that is, edit the VM resource setting and give 0 size in Reservation, after power on set the reservation size as per the limit size.

Cannot connect to other Hosts from ESXi with ssh/scp

Hi there,

I have two ESXi hosts (free Version 6.5) up and running for quite some time now. Everything is running smooth.

If SSHd is enabled on the ESXi hosts, I also can connet to then with ssh, there is no issue.

But if I'm already on the ESXi host in a shell, I cannot connect to any other host with ssh or scp.

ssh: connect to host XX.XX.XX.XX port 22: Connection timed out

This behaviour is the same for both of my ESXi hosts. SSHD on the remote hosts (where I want to connect to) is working fine, and I can connect to them from any other machine beside my two ESXi hosts.

Any clue from where this behaviour comes and how to fix it?

Regards,

Claude

NSX-T preparation failed

Hello Guys,

I am working with NSX-T 2.5, with two vSphere clusters under one vCenter 6.7 U3 and Hosts version 6.7 U1.

We prepared the first cluster with NSX-T after Creating/Preparing the Transport Node Profile.

We got a compatibility error between 2.5 and 6.7 U1. After checking the compatibility matrix we found that we have to patch our hosts to P06.

We patched all hosts, then try to prepare clusters. Successfully prepare the second one. Regarding the first one we un-configure it then try to prepare with no luck.

Below are the errors.

vRealize Operations Manager 7.5 Data Retriever is Not Initialized yet

I am testing out this version of Operations Manager in my vSphere 6.7u3 environment.  Operations Manager was working fine before I shutdown the virtual appliance in order to save resources while I used HP's Smart Update Manager to update my three ESXi hosts firmware and drivers.  These three hosts are not clustered.  I've now booted up the Operations Manager appliance.  The appliance seems to boot up okay.  I can connect to it via https and SSH.  I can log into it via SSH.  However when I get to the login page for the website, I get the message "Data Retriever is not initialized yet.  Please wait...".  So I've waited for a day.  I've rebooted the appliance.  I've searched the docs, KBs, and communities for answers.  I've found similar requests for help in communities from 4 years ago.  Unfortunately no advice in those requests help in my situation.

Can someone help me get the data retriever to initialize successfully?

Workspace ONE Access with Azure MFA using the NPS Extension.

$

In an earlier blog post,  I walked through various options on how to use Microsoft Authenticator with Workspace ONE Access (formerly known as VMware Identity Manager). In the final option, we talked about using the Microsoft Azure MFA Server.  However, as of July 1st, 2019, Microsoft is no longer offering the MFA Server for new deployments.

Microsoft does however provide another option to leverage Azure MFA by using the Network Policy Server extension for Azure.

In the blog I will walk through the process of configuring a Network Policy Server along with the NPS Extension.

Install and Configure the Network Policy Server

  1. Using the Server Manager -> Add Role and Features
    Screen Shot 09-25-19 at 01.42 PM.PNG
  2. Click Next
  3. Select Role-Based or feature-based Installation
  4. Select the Server from the Server Pool and click next
  5. Add the Network Policy and Access Services
    Screen Shot 09-25-19 at 01.43 PM.PNG
  6. Add the dependency features.
  7. Add the Network Policy Server
    Screen Shot 09-25-19 at 01.44 PM.PNG
  8. Complete the rest of the wizard to install the Network Policy Server.

Download and Install the NPS Extension

  1. Go to Download NPS Extension for Azure MFA from Official Microsoft Download Center
  2. Download the NPS Extension for Azure MFA Installer.
  3. Run the installer
    Screen Shot 09-25-19 at 01.49 PM 002.PNG
  4. Click Install

Configure the NPS Extension

  1. Run Windows Powershell as an Administrator
  2. At the powershell prompt, cd to "c:\Program Files\Microsoft\AzureMfa\Config"
  3. Run ".\AzureMfaNpsExtnConfigSetup.ps1"
  4. You will be prompted to authenticate with Azure.
  5. After successful authentication, you will be prompted to enter your tenant id. This is your Directory ID which can be copied from your Azure Console:
    directoryid.png
  6. This script will create a self signed certificate for you.

Configure your NPS Server

  1. Access your NPS Server (via Admin Tools)
  2. Under standard configuration, select "Radius server for Dial-up or VPN Connections"
  3. Click Configure VPN or Dial-up
  4. Select "Virtual Private Network (VPN) Connections"
  5. Provide a friendly name ie. Workspace ONE
  6. Click Next
  7. Under Radius Clients -> Click Add
  8. Provide a friendly Name, IP Address and a Shared Secret
  9. Click OK and Next
  10. Select Microsoft Encrypted Authentication version 2 (MS-CHAPv2)
  11. Click Next
  12. Under Groups, - Select a group that includes your MFA Users.
  13. Click Next for IP Filters
  14. Click Next for Encryption Settings
  15. Click Next for Realm Name (leave blank)
  16. Click Finish
  17. Click on Policies -> Connection Request Policies
  18. Double Click on the new "Workspace ONE Policy"
  19. Change the type to Unspecified
  20. Click on the Condition Tab
  21. Delete the NAS Port Type and Click Add
  22. Select "Access Client IPv4Address"
  23. Enter the IP Address of the Connector Server
  24. Click OK
  25. Click on Policies -> Network Policies
  26. Double Click on the new "Workspace ONE Policy"
  27. Change the Type to Unspecified
  28. Under Conditions, you should just have the group condition
  29. Under Constraints, select "Microsoft Encrypted Authentication version 2 (MS-CHAP-v2)"
  30. Click OK.

Configure Workspace ONE Access

  1. Log into your Workspace ONE Access Admin Console
  2. Go to Identity & Access Manager -> Setup
  3. Click on your Connector Worker -> Auth Adapters
    Screen Shot 10-14-19 at 04.17 PM.PNG
  4. Click on Radius Adapter
  5. Enter your Radius Host, Ports and Secret
Note: Do not enter an accounting port.  I was not able to get this to work with the NPS Server.

  6. Select MSChapv2 as the encryption type.
  7. Click Save
  8. In the Workspace ONE Access Console, go to Identity Providers and edit the Built-In provider.
  9. Enable the Cloud Based Radius Adapter
  10. Click Save.
  11. You can now use the Cloud Radius Adapter in your Access Policies.

VM Bluescreen

$

Hi

I have an Windows 7 image made using Acronis that I want to recover into a VM.  The PC is becoming a bit flaky and it has some legacy software on it that I want to still be able to access when I upgrade the PC to a new Windows 10 machine.  The image is from an Asus P8Z68-V Gen 3 machine which has a UEFI boot but the Sata drive is set to IDE not AHCI.  If it is set to AHCI it bluscreens on boot which is what I am seeing in my VM's.

The method I have used is to create a new VM and then boot to the acronis disk to restore the image to the VM.  I have tried various configuration for the VM but I can not get it to boot.  If I select BIOS boot for the VM and choose either a SCSI or IDE Drive for the image it bluescreens as it does if I try to boot with the Sata drive set to AHCI on the actual PC.  If I restore the image to a VM where I have chose UEFI as the boot method it does not recognise there is anything to boot to.  I just get an error of no media when trying to boot to SCSI drive (0.0).  I don't see anywhere in the EUFI boot manager where I can change the SATA drive type.

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to where I am going wrong?

Many thanks.

Craig
