Use of OneDrive with RDSH applications?

$

Hi all,

I have a client that has some users who connect to their applications via Horizon RDSH apps.

They are using a file explorer app to see their files and folders.

They want to know if there is a way to be able to see their OneDrive folders in the folder structure.

Using the same app outside the RDSH setup works fine and, after signing in to their OneDrive a/c, they can see the OneDrive folders/files in the app.

I am trying to find out if:

a) it is supported to do that through RDSH app access

b) IF it is supported, how could I go about it.

I believe that OneDrive is only supported on Horizon VDI desktops as I cannot find anything related to RDSH app use (can anyone clarify that for me)?

I also tried, just in case, to install the OneDrive sync agent on an RDSH server but it doesn´t seem to be working.

Can anyone help me with this topic please?

Regards

Mark

Unable to create the installation medium - Sierra Host, High Sierra Guest

Just updated to Fusion 10.0.1 and I'm trying to setup a High Sierra Guest on my Sierra machine. On installation I get an error stating that it's "Unable to create the installation medium".

I recall seeing something similar with Fusion 8 and the Sierra developer previews, but as High Sierra is apparently supported as I guest I'm surprised that I'm getting this error.

How do you install a High Sierra Guest, before I installed a Sierra Guest and then upgraded but surely that should no longer be necessary.

Hi All,

Running Horizon 7.9 and running outlook through application pools.

Is it possible to get the sound working for outlook as an application?  I have a taken a look through all the settings and everything looks to be enabled.

TIA

Is VMWare really so poor they need to stop their customers from redownloading their purchases?

Seriously, if they're hurting so badly, they should just adopt AWS like everyone else.

Another NSX v6.3.5 to v6.4.6 upgrade question

Hi. We are in a cross-vCenter setup. After we do our Primary/Secondary managers and the Controller Cluster we had planned to stop and then start our host cluster upgrades the next day.

Is there any reason after we finish the Controller cluster that we cannot upgrade our host cluster at the secondary site. And then do the primary site host cluster the next day?

We plan on doing the Edges about 3 days later.

Thank you for any comments.

shutdown hidden virtual machine?

I am using an app that launches a virtual machine but hidden.  So if you have VMware Workstation's open to a particular virtual, and this other tool launches it hidden, nothing changes on the screen.  Problem I'm having, I can't figure out how to shut it off for one virtual machine as it's Linux and have remote root access disabled and this virtual doesn't have other accounts on it right now.  Short of rebooting the computer any thoughts?

Thanks.

VMC USers and Groups - add user greyed out

$

I'm logged on as cloudadmin. When I go under users and groups the add user is grayed out when I select vmc.local or mydomain.com.

Also, when I look at groups it says You have no privileges to view this object or it does not exist.

I can't add a mydomain\user-group to the global permissions.

Any suggestions. This is a brand new environment running in HLM mode.

Proper way to map XaaS Type on vRA 7.X Catalog

$

I have the following scenario (opinions are always welcome):

I want to provision a Load Balancer as a Service using XaaS. So, to accomplish this task, I've used the vRO DynamicType Plugin to create this association tree:

Namespace: LoadBalancer

  • Device (the device itself)
    • Virtual Server (virtual server data such as source/destination address, fqdn and some profiles)
      • Pool (Pool with the servers)
        • Pool Member (Servers themselves)

Then, I've created a workflow to Create a new load balancer wich takes some input such as:

  • Network Environment: So I can determine wich of my load balancers will have the request virtual server created
  • Server List: For now, I'm using a datagrid wich basically receives Server Address and Port (Wich I still dont know how to properly validate each inclusion on this grid, but I guess this is another thread)
  • Domain Name: From a list, the user will pick up an allowed domain.
  • <Few other informations>

And the workflow output is a DynamicType:LoadBalancer.VirtualServer. When the workflow finishes, I create the output using DynamicTypeManager.makeObject(), which for some reason, does not return anything while debugging but I can see the data when refreshing the inventory.

That setted up, I created the following:

XaaS Custom Resource: DynamicType:LoadBalancer.VirtualServer to create a Virtual Server resource with the form that I wanted (somehow) display to the end user after workflow is finished.

XaaS Resource Mapping: Map the custom resource Virtual Server to orchestrator type DynamicType:LoadBalancer.VirtualServer with it's proper Map workflow

XaaS Blueprint: The XaaS itself, with the proper form and provisioned resource mapped to the output parameter.

When I request the XaaS blueprint thru the Catalog, the workflow does work and the load balancer is provisioned perfectly except that nothing returns to the end user, so, I cannot tell the user what's the FQDN that I just generated, the source ip address and some more information that my object have. The deployment screen just shows it's completed but no response information is displayed.

Am I missing something or is there a better way to accomplish this scenario?

Thanks in advance

VCSA 6.7 U3 Deploy From Template w/Customization - stuck at Select Networks

$

Since upgrading from U2 to U3 I'm unable to deploy from a library template if I use a customization spec, it won't go further than the Select Networks screen.

  • Deploying from a datastore template works fine, even when using a customization spec.
  • Deploying from a library template works fine if I don't use a customization spec.
  • I've created a new customization spec (from scratch, not duplicating an existing spec) and the problem persists.
  • This is only an issue in the HTML5 client - everything works fine in the Flash client.
  • Tested IE 11 and the latest version of Chrome with the same results.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

vRA 7.5 Custom forms with custom property not updating

$

I have a custom property that is created daily with a vRO workflow. I'm pulling data from ServiceNOW into a dropdown property on a daily basis. I use this property on several blueprints with custom forms. (The workflow goes... get data from SNOW, delete the existing custom property, create the custom property with most recent data)

What I'm seeing is that the custom property is not getting updated in the custom form. It has the values that were present when I created the BP. The only way I've been able to get the current values is to delete the dropdown from the form and add it back in. Since I have many BPs and this is not the only custom property I'm seeing this with, the burden to maintain is unreasonable.

Is this a known issue, any fixes or workarounds?

Fusion 11.5.1

Fresh install of Oracle Enterprise Linux 7.4

Updated all software

open-vm-tools and open-vm-tolls-desktop installed and working

When I first create the image and log in as root I can resize the screen and I have resolutions available above 1360 -0 as high as the resolution of My MacBookPro 2018

But, the first time I shut the machine down and then restart I only see 1360 as the maximum resolution with no way to set it higher.

How do I fix this?

thanks

UEFI Runtime Services Bug

$

Fusion Pro 11.5.1 on MAC Host

UEFI provides a number of "Boot Services" and "Runtime Services".   Boot Services are used in the pre-boot environment via physical addressing, while Runtime Services are available in both the pre-boot and post-boot environments.   The transition between these phases of operation occurs with a call to the Boot Service "ExitBootServices" followed by a call to another Boot Service "SetVirtualAddressMap".    Once these two procedures have been called, the "Boot Services" dispatch table is to be zeroed out, along with the UEFI System Table's pointer to the Boot Services table.   No further Boot Services should be called.

After calling SetVirtualAddressMap, the UEFI Runtime Services can be called from the virtual addresses supplied in the memory map argument passed to SetVirtualAddressMap.

UEFI updates its Runtime Service dispatch table to include these virtual addresses and notifications are issued to any UEFI components and drivers that need to know that we have switched to a runtime environment.

That's how it *should* work...

However, what is happening is that Fusion's UEFI implementation is incorrectly handling Runtime Service calls.   To illustrate these, I am calling a Runtime Service "GetTime" using its physical address BEFORE ExitBootServices.   This works fine, however, I have noticed by stepping through the code that Fusion has set up the "Boot" Services table (identified by it's ASCII signature) to contain the Runtime Service vectors.   How do I know?   Like I said, each table has an ASCII signature, in this case "BOOT_SERV", yet stepping through the code shows that it is correctly pulling the procedure pointer for GetTime from the expected position in a Runtime Services table.   Strange.

Now AFTER calling ExitBootServices and SetVirtualAddressMap, the Runtime Service call to GetTime is made again using its Virtual Address.   It fails.

Stepping through the code again, the code again tries to get the GetTime procedure from the "Boot" Service table but it has now been zeroed out!

When I examine the EFI_SYSTEM_TABLE's pointer to the Boot Services table, it is correctly zero.

When I examine the EFI_SYSTEM_TABLE's pointer to the Runtime Services table, it is correct and each of the entries in the table is correct.  But the actual Runtime call to GetTime is still trying to access the Boot Services table.    This is clearly a bug in Fusions implementation of UEFI.   I will try this on both Workstation and ESXi shortly.   BTW, I have decades of experience with EFI/UEFI and OS Loaders and my code is running on hundreds of systems and other VM Hosts, so this is not a post from a confused newbie....  Just sayin'   ;^)

Has anyone else actually used UEFI Runtime Services in the post-boot, virtual environment?

utopia.net malware in startup process.

Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I have a Dell PowerEdge T130 I bought specifically to run multiple VMs on ESXi. Specifically, pfSense and FreeNAS, plus any other OS that I need to install in the future. The purpose of this is to have one machine act as a router (pfSense), NAS (FreeNAS), etc. This was connected to a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 flashed to DD-WRT and was essentially a subnet for all my devices. I enabled Promiscuous Mode to allow the manual installation/configuration of FreeNAS jails (manually assigning local IPs). This setup worked fine for several months when suddenly, I started having internet connection issues. I discovered the culprit is utopia.net starting up as a process in ESXi. I'm not sure how it became a startup process, but I reinstalled a fresh copy of ESXi on a new flash drive and reinstalled the VMs from scratch. The only stuff that persisted from the previous installation was my ESXi activation code and the FreeNAS dataset. After completing the new setup, the utopia.net malware was present immediately. At this point, I have the following theories as to how utopia.net survived a new installation:

- it's embedded in BIOS

- it's in the FreeNAS dataset

- Netgear Nighthawk router

- activation code??

The PowerEdge T130 has the following specifications:

Intel Xeon processor E3-1200

4x4tb WD Red

StarTech 4 Port PCI Express 2.0 SATA III 6Gbps RAID Controller Card with HyperDuo SSD Tiering (PPEXSAT34RH)

16x2 DDR4 ECC (Crucial CT16G4WFD824A 16Gb Ddr4 2400 Mt/S Pc4-2400 Dimm 288Pin Dr X8 Ecc Unbuff Cl17)

pfSense VM

FreeNAS VM

Linux Mint VM

Windows 7 VM

OpenVPN OVA

I can't think of anything else that would cause the malware to persist like this, so I am seeking out the knowledge/advice of others.

Only 25 clients can run on VMware Workstation Pro at the same time

My work scenario is to open many sub windows on Windows. The more, the better.

Few days ago, I installed a new computer with AMD ThreadRipper 3970X. The monstor has 32 cores and 64 threads.

Then I installed VMware Workstation PRO 15.5. Later, I found that I could only open 28 clients and run only 25. At this time, my CPU usage is only 50%.

Is there any way to break this limitation, or hope that the official can keep pace with the times and increase the upper limit of windows that VM Pro can support. After all, 32 or even 64 core desktop processors have been born.

Exsi is used by the server, which obviously does not meet my use scenario.

Thank you!

BUG: Cannot export a VM with pcie passthru - Results in empty .OVF file.

$

Hey all,

I am trying to export a VM and everything goes well EXCEPT the .OVF file it has you download is empty.   When I say empty, I mean it is 1KB and contains nothing.  The file is completely empty.

I've done some testing and concluded that you cannot export a VM if the VM has a pcie-passthru.  This causes the .OVF file to be blank every single time.

Steps to replicate:

  1. Create a VM
  2. Attach a PCIE-Passthru
  3. Export VM
  4. Open up the .OVF file
  5. .OVF file is empty - bug confirmed.

Is there a way we can get this fixed?  Or any fix you know about?

Thanks

How to use PowerCLI objects in c++

$

I need to use PowerCLI in CLI/CRL C++ application.

What I found out is, I cannot create a member handle in non-managed code. As a result I need to create the PowerShell object for each command/script I execute through code.  However, there are multiple scripts that I need to execute through application which means, eveytime a new object will be created.

Is there a way to avoid creating the PowerShell connection per command/script? In other words, I want to keep the connection alive till execution of all commads/scripts are complete (within a thread).

TIA
