I was wondering if it is possible with VMWare to run a separate OS per desktop where that entire desktop is assigned to that OS and just that OS. It would be better if I could have 2 linux and a windows desktop on my laptop. I dont want there to be border bars or anything like that, just three finger swipe and then viola. I have VMWare Player Pro and it wont really do this. It will work as a maximized window in a desktop but not as the desktop itself.
Running an OS Per Desktop?
vCenter crashed after updating
I've updated vCenter to the available update from Update Manager via WebGUI. After rebooting, I cannot access anything. both https://myserver or https://myserver:5480 as well. I've tried to Google and change password of root account, DB password, postgres password, etc... but nothing helped. Below is some logs, pls help me to solve this because this is the only vCenter in our system.

vSphere client
Hi

Getting a return code from new-snapshot
In a previous post (see Return code from new-snapshot ) I asked how to get a return code from new-snapshot.
I created a script line like:
$my_snapshot = new-snapshot -VM $my_vm -name $snapshot_neme -Description $description
if ($my_snapshot)
{
...
}
else
{
...
}
and il works fine.
However, how can I investigate the reason (if any) because a snapshot was not created?

Dell R640 and MD3400 Setup Issues
Folks,
I am a VMWare beginner and am trying to get my head around how to install vSphere on my hardware. I have the applicable licenses for my 2 CPUs, and have no issue installing a version of ESXi on the R640 and creating my vCSA. From that point everything seems to go wrong though.
I cant for the life of me work out how to connect the MD3400. The device is physically attached to the host via dual 12G SAS HBA, but the ESXi host only sees the onboard BOSS-S1 raid card.
I did some reading and saw some articles about the MD3420 not being able to be direct connect, but nothing about the MD3400.
I'm guessing I'm missing a simple step, but cant seem to find anyone who has setup a similar configuration.
Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

missing permissions after VCSA 6.7a upgrade
Hi,
I've faced following issue. We had vCenter 6.5 on windows as embedded PSC. This server was migrated to VCSA 6.7 and all looks good except one thing - permissions. All permissions from active directory were missing except Global permissions. I have added all again. Now I have upgraded to 6.7.0a through :5480 UI. After services restart I lost permissions again.
Does anybody face same issue?
Thanks
Microsoft Edge and Persona Management issues
We are struggling with Microsoft modern apps and Persona Management. We get working all what we need but Microsoft Edge is a beast...
If the folder "AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe" is roam with PM, Edge open and close immediately. Something seems to prevent Edge to be modified by an external process. The copy procedure from Persona share to user profile at login time seems to break something.
Have you figure out how to use Edge with PM?

Unable to receive ping response to/from VDR Appliance on a particular host
Hi All,
Here is my current configuration and what's not working:
VCenter
Host 1
VDR Appliance 1
VCenter Server
Multiple Windows Virtual Machines
Host 2
VDR Appliance 2
Multiple Windows Virtual Machines
- VDR Appliance 1 can ping all other machines and hosts and can also be pinged.
- VDR Appliance 2 is unable to ping any other machines or hosts or be pinged itself. Can ping localhost however.
- If I move VDR Appliance 2 to Host 1 then it can ping all other machines just like VDR Appliance 1 can.
- If I move VDR Appliance 1 to Host 2 then it can't ping all other machines just like VDR Appliance 2 can't.
- VDR Appliance 2 is on the same vSwitch as other Windows virtual machines and they connect fine.
Firstly, is it possible to have 1 VCenter server supporting a VDR Appliance on a separate host or does each VDR Appliance need its own VCenter server on each separate host?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, I'm at a loss as to why a VDR Appliance can't talk on the network whilst sitting under Host 2.
vSphere client and vSphere web client

ThinPrint (Horizon 7) - Printing via PDF (Garbled Text)
Hi folks,
We recently deployed Windows 10 desktops and App Volumes/ UEM.
Give you an idea - linked clone/floating:
- Windows 10 Pro x64
- VMWare Tools 10.1.15.6677369
- Horizon Agent 7.4.0
The problem: A user prints off a PDF file using Thin Print and it sometimes (not always) prints it out as garbled text, other times, it will not print out the whole document, only parts.
I'm not sure why this is happening. I have generated Thin Print logs but am not sure what I'm looking for - perhaps someone here might know?
I've tried different versions of the agent/tools to no avail. Different PDF applications. Various printer settings.
Anyone come across this and could possibly advise on some things to try?
Many thanks,
Travis
vRA 7.3.1 - Force data collection for specifc items
Hi,
we have around 300 blueprint in our vRA-Designer. These blueprints represent our different test environments of our software versions. All blueprints consist only of some vcenter vms and a network. The vcenter vms are frequently updated because we often change our software version on the vms (CI/CD). Therefore we have to change the vm reference of the blueprint to a new updated vm (the old reference will be deleted). This is done by an orchestrator workflow that updates the blueprint after a "Advanced force data collection"-workflow has finished which runs first. The data collection part takes approximately 10 minutes. So due to our update frequency its very likely that multiple blueprints must be updated in a 10 minute period and the long running "Advanced force data collection"-worklow runs multiple times. If this is the case the "Advanced force data collection"-workflow run time is much longer or a Dead-Lock-Situation appears. As a result the blueprint must be manually updated after the vRA-Built-In-Data-Collection completed successfully (configured to run every 15 minutes in our environment).
I would like to ask if its maybe possible to update a specific entry of the vRA-Data-Collection (e. g. a virtual machine) and not the whole cluster? Could anybody help me with this?
Please find the "Advanced force data collection"-workflow here: https://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-28063
Kind regads

restore data from a single vmdk component
Hi
I have a 3 hosts vSAN cluster and my vms are deployed with FTT=1.
Now I assum that VM1 is deployed with a vmdk copy in host1, the second copy in host2 and the witness in host3.
If I loose host1 and 3 my VM is dead.
The question is: there's a way to restore the data since I have a full vmdk in host2 ?
If I add 2 new hosts, the second vmdk and the witness are automatically created ?
Thanks in advance

looking for migration options
We tried updating our 5.5 update 3b environment to 6.5 and there are errors that are occruing in our that support cannot explain. I have an SR open but I get the feeling the best option is to rebuild the vcenter server. We do have a new 6.5 environment currently setup, the plan was to upgrade our current environment to 6.5, which would allow cross vcenter vmotion. I'm thinking if we need to completely reinstall vcenter from scratch, why shouldn't we just connect the 5.5 hosts to our 6.5 appliance directly? These 5.5 server have standard switches, so the switches should migrate over fine. If this doesn't sound like a good plan, has anyone else tried something similar. We also have SRM installed, so I think these our options
1.)Reinstall vcenter as a 5.5 vcenter. This requires SRM and vSphere replication to be reinstalled
2.)Reinatall vcenter as a 6.5 vcenter. Install SRM and vSphere at the correct levels
3.)Disconnect hosts from 5.5 vcenter and connect to new 6.5 environment.
Thanks for any suggestions

Administrator password change using guest customization - "VMware Image Customization in progress" on every reboot
Hi to all,
I would appreciate help with following problem in vCloud Director environment we have.
Customer is asking for functionality to change password for default administrator in guest OS (in cases where end customers forgot password).
We were able to change administrator password using guest OS customization. It is same if we do that using vCloud Director GUI or from vRO worklow - behavior we experience is the same.
If we tick only "Enable guest customization" and "Auto generate password" (and untick "Change SID"), Power ON and force customization, password is changed but at every reboot cycle of VPS we see "VMware Image Customization in progress" screen. Beside that, we see in registry that sysprep was not finished, same like described here VMware Knowledge Base . Templates are created using correct operating system.
Here are settings which produce this behavior, like I sad, same is if we do that using vRO workflow.
Doe anyone saw this before? Changing registry on every provisioned VPS is not best option to solve this...
or
guestCustomizationSection.enabled = true;
guestCustomizationSection.adminPasswordEnabled = true;
guestCustomizationSection.changeSid = false;
guestCustomizationSection.adminPasswordAuto = true;
guestCustomizationSection.resetPasswordRequired = false;
guestCustomizationSection.adminAutoLogonEnabled = false;
guestCustomizationSection.adminAutoLogonCount = 0;
Environment consist of:
vCenter Server 6.0.0, 7037393
ESXi 6.0.0, 3825889
vCloud Director 8.2.0
I woul appreciate any help.
Thank you.
