vSAN implementation with PERC h700

I'm currently testing a vSAN environment using a simplistic network schema. Using 3 Dell r610's with a PERC h700 RAID Controller, I'm still unable to add the Storage Provider (as they are not showing up). I've tried reinstalling vCenter... Nothing. I've tried taking the hosts out of the cluster and adding them into another cluster with vSAN enabled... Nothing. Checking the Storage Policy logs, I've noticed the certs weren't trusted... Taking each of the ESXi Hosts certs, I've added them to the Trusted People Certificate Store. After doing that and trying to add the storage provider, it then states that the username and password isn't correct. I'm lost, I have no idea where to move forward. I've contacted the VMware help desk and they seem to be lost as well. Has anyone tried to vSAN with the Dell r610's with PERC h700? VMware said it should work...

Hi,

I have recently join to vmware and still doing my testing on it. Yet I'm trying to connect Vmware guest with WHMCS with jetserver pluging - till here it works.

But while trying to access the guest / sending power command [ Power ON / OFF / RESET ], I endup with error " The object has already been deleted or has not been completely created ".

After trying to figure what log comes against that attempt, I found on hostd.log - as

Linked clone question

Hello,

On WS 9, created a Vm, then a snapshot, then created 2 linked clones - LC1 and LC2. Then enabled template mode on parent.

Can I run both linked clones at the same time or am I limited to running only ONE at a time?

Also, how is memory allocated to the linked clones? I chose 4GB for parent clone and 4GB for each linked clone when they were created. Does that mean that each linked clone would use - 4GB (parent) + 4GB (clone) OR is it that all 3 VMs - parent, LC1 and LC2 would each use 4GB of RAM when open?

Thanks for your assistance.

Upgrade from 3.1.4 to 6.x?

I am looking to upgrade my Mac OS to Maverick.  I see that I have to upgrade my Fusion from 3.1.4 to 6.x.  Since I can't upgrade from 3.x to 6.x I have to buy a new license and install.  A few questions:

1.  Can I install the 6.x version on top of the existing 3.1.4 version?

2.  How do new installs work?  Will I have to reinstall Windows 7 and the applications such as Quicken, QuickBooks, etc.?

Any guidance is appreciated.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Horizon View 5.3.2 HTML5 Blast Best Practice

Hi Guys,

Is there any Windows 7 Best Practice for the Golden Image which I can follow to deploy View Linked clone Pool by using Horizon View 5.3.2 and also I would like to enable View Blast feature by installing HTML Remote Desktop Experience Agent. I've seen Horizon View 5.2 Best Practice and Commands.bat tweaks etc. But that doesn't seem to work right as it's degrading the Graphics to a really low quality. Plus while installing Remote Desktop Experience Agent, it gives error that Desktop Window Manager Session Manager is disabled. Which I can see is disabled by using commands.bat script.

Is there any Best Practice for Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit which I can configure so that I get better performance but graphics not too low?

What is the process for installing OS X 10.9.x on ESXi 5.5 host?

$

I've tried this a couple different ways and I always get the same result, which is a spinning beach ball during the boot process.  My current setup is ESXi 5.5 running inside a Fusion 6 VM, with 8GB of RAM allocated and 40GB of disk.  I attached InstallESD.dmg (and I've also tried creating a custom mavericks iso) as a virtual device on the Fusion-based ESXi host.  I then create a new virtual machine, declaring it as a 10.7 64-bit system, allocating 4GB of ram and 25GB of disk (which leaves approximately 7GB free on the ESXi host datastore).  I set the optical drive to be attached at power on and to use the host device.  If I then power on the VM with the console open, it starts to boot, showing the gray screen with a slightly darker Apple logo, the progress indicator starts to move, and then after 10-20 more seconds, I get the beach ball icon, which spins endlessly. I've tried upgrading it to hardware version 10, I've tried moving an existing Fusion vmdk into place and booting it (which ESXi doesn't like at all).  All of this is being done on a current model Mac Pro.  I've googled around for it and I mostly find kludgy discussions of trying to run ESXi 5.1 and installing OS X on non-Apple hardware.

Hi,

I installed the vcenter server on a windows vm. In the installation, you are asked to provide sso details, where I provided the local admin account for the server I am installing to. If I'd like to change this, how would I do so?

BSOD Windows 7 Professional in Unity Mode

I didn't find anything in a search (but I'm not sure I'm doing it right).  I had a BSOD this morning running Windows 7 Professional under Mavericks 10.9.3 - 27" iMac, 3.1GHz i5, 24GB of RAM.

I wasn't doing much at the time - it just suddenly crashed.  Was wondering if Unity mode had anything to do with things since it did seem like it had problems popping into Unity mode when I booted the VM and if there are any known issues in that regard.

I collected .dmp files, etc., but was also wondering if there's somewhere else I can post them except to the forum as I don't know what type of confidential info might be contained in the dump files.

Thanks!

Getting two beeps when starting a VM -- cause for concern?

$

Hey everyone.

Background info:

Running Workstation 10.0 and my VM is Windows 2012 with SQL server backend.

Recently (as of in the last week), I noticed that when i turn on this particular VM in my lab, i get two beeps, but the VM boots fine. No idea why it started. If you had to ask me what changed, nothing has. The only thing I can think of is that there is a new update available that I have not done yet and "maybe" it started after that (grasping here.)

I have done some digging around, but have not found anything concrete on what it could be. Did find a few other threads out there that talk about editing the .vmx file and putting a specific line to true:

Re: How to disable system beep on vm startup?

Two questions on that.

1.) Do these new beeps represent a problem with my VM? That is my biggest concern right now as it is the workhorse in my lab. The VM boots fine, works fine it is just those beeps.

2.) I dont have that particular line in my .vmx file, unless I completely missed it.

Any thoughts?

I appreciate it.

Cheers,

Uniquely identify a guest VM (UUID)

$

Hi,

I'm trying to do software protection for my software which will run on an ESXi guest VM. I googled and found that there was a mechanism to get BiosUUID of a guest VM from inside the guest. The one that I get matches the

esxcli vm process list output in the ESXi host. But, I see that its very easy to modify the .vmx configuration file to keep the UUID same whenever the VM is cloned or moved and the hypervisor seems to allow 2 VMs on the same machine with identical UUID (I mean when manually modified). This creates a license check problem for us. My software will only be installed in a guest VM with no access to host at all. Is there any way I can get around this issue and uniquely identify a VM so that license check fails when the VM is cloned or moved.

I have a Windows XP machine I'm looking to virtualize.

I can ping the machine, I can log in with remote desktop, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out why on my Windows 8.1 machine I cannot access the admin$ share.

I followed the instructions, I turned off Simple File Sharing. I verified the username is correct,

I know the username and password and I type in the machine name and the IP address 192.168.1.171\myadmin or computername\myadmin

How do I troubleshoot this?

Error reading the Autologin state: Internal error.

I'm running VMWare Workstation 10.0.3 build-1895310 on Windows 7 x64 host. I received some VMWare message box popups on the host saying "Error reading the Autologin state: Internal error.". This was few minutes after I saved a snapshot of a Windows 8 x64 guest. I don't know if that's related. I had several guests running at the time. Does anyone know what that message means?

Shared folder corruption in Workstation 10

$

I'm running VMWare Workstation 10.0.3 build-1895310 on Windows 7 x64 host.  I have a Windows 7 x64 guest with VMWare tools 9.2.4 build-1398046. It has a shared folder configuration with a folder that is read-only and contains installation files on the host. The shared folder was opened in the guest. In other words the explorer window was open and I could see the list of files in the folder. I realized a program I use that was in the shared folder, Fiddler, had a newer version released so I downloaded it on the host and copied it to the same folder on the host that is also the shared read-only folder on the guest. This consisted of two files, the fiddler installation exe and a copy of the fiddler.exe with a modified icon. These files already existed in the folder so I chose to overwrite them with the newer versions. Then in the guest I tried to install and the installer told me it failed an integrity check. I tested on the host and the installer was fine. So I tried again in the guest and the installer worked that time. After the installation finished in the guest I copied the fiddler.exe with the modified icon (again in the shared read-only folder) to the Fiddler program files directory on the guest. When I tried to start it, it gave me some weird application error. I realized maybe this file was corrupt too. So I went in a hex editor and checked the fiddler.exe in the shared read-only folder on the guest to the fiddler.exe on the host, in the same folder. In other words I compared the same file. I found a difference in the files, the corrupt file ended in all zero data where the other file had actual data. Both files were the same size.

I've actually had this problem once or twice in the past, I probably have posted about it or reported it to support. It must have been a long time ago, years ago, because I only vaguely remember it.

The file size is 1016584 and the position where the zeroing starts in the corrupt version is 1009416. Interestingly the old Fiddler.exe that was in the folder before I overwrote it was 1009416 bytes. I've attached both files to this post. Hopefully this information will help you solve the bug. Thanks

We have setup where some staff are connecting remotely (external) back to their physical workstation via View Client (View Security Service/Connection Server).

It appears that the Virtual Printing feature in the agent is not available if it is installed on a physical workstation. Is there any way around this to allow clients to use ThinPrint when connected to a physical end point?

Getting a series of different errors when backing up with GhettoVCB.

Hello all,

VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733

VMware ESXi 5.1.0 GA

Backing up to an NFS datastore (confirmed working)

NFS datastore on server running: CentOS release 6.4 (Final)

Cron on the ESXi server hosting the VMs is set to backup all VMs. Was previously working for months and suddenly stopped. Gives a series of different errors:

Error 1: Failed to get current user.

Error 2: Nothing but "aborted"

Error 3: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Vmacore::SystemException'

  what():  Resource temporarily unavailable

Error 4: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'

  what():  std::bad_alloc

Example: http://pastebin.com/mhXb6XHC

If never gives more than one of the above errors, and which you get it completely random. I have the script set up on 3 host servers, all configured the same. One works, two others do not all of a sudden.

Anyone ever see these errors before..? Let me know if you need any other information.

Thanks for your time in advance,

RC.
